136 From an old letter written by Ezra Holmes, Jrs., dated May 24, 1863:
"I don't know much of the Dawley boys. Hull was down to see me this
spring and I hain't heard from him since. Henry's wife has a young
son. We knew that Amanda had gone home and Barker did not. I wonder
if she has left him for good as he was all used up for funds and I
don't think her brother treated her very well and I don't think she
enjoyed California very well."

137 From Janet Bjorndahl: Nicholas' first wife might or might not have been Magdalena Widmer. One source of this possible marriage is that Anna's birth record lists her mother as Magdalena Widmer (Richard Davis). Donna Basinger also lists Nicholas' first wife and the mother of his first child as Magdalena Widmer (without quoting a source), but curiously, lists Anna as his second wife's daughter. If Magdalena was Nicholas' first wife, it is not certain which children beyond the first two (Hans and Anna) were hers. Larkins has suggested that if Magdalena was Nicholas' first wife, then the third child (Magdalena) was probably hers because of the name being the same (although her paternal great-grandmother was also a Magdalena). Given the slightly larger gap in birth dates between Magdalena and the next child (Nicholas), it is not unreasonable to suggest that the first 3 children were Magdalena's and the rest were Catherine's, but this is pure conjecture. It could as easily be argued that the first 5 were Magdalena's, because of the even larger gap between Jacob and Catharina. Family: F6276

138 From Janet Bjorndahl: The identity of Jacob Schantz's first wife as Magdalena Erb, daughter of Nicholas Erb, is not certain. However, his first wife was stated to be Magdalena (Ezra Eby, Richard Davis), and Magdalena Erb was stated to be married to a Johns (Shantz) of Leacock township (Alex Harris), and Jacob most likely resided in Leacock township for a while (Alex Harris). Family: F6280

139 From Richard Davis: All of their children were baptized at Wadenswil. Family: F6259
