Notes |
Married:
- From Janet Bjorndahl: Nicholas' first wife might or might not have been Magdalena Widmer. One source of this possible marriage is that Anna's birth record lists her mother as Magdalena Widmer (Richard Davis). Donna Basinger also lists Nicholas' first wife and the mother of his first child as Magdalena Widmer (without quoting a source), but curiously, lists Anna as his second wife's daughter. If Magdalena was Nicholas' first wife, it is not certain which children beyond the first two (Hans and Anna) were hers. Larkins has suggested that if Magdalena was Nicholas' first wife, then the third child (Magdalena) was probably hers because of the name being the same (although her paternal great-grandmother was also a Magdalena). Given the slightly larger gap in birth dates between Magdalena and the next child (Nicholas), it is not unreasonable to suggest that the first 3 children were Magdalena's and the rest were Catherine's, but this is pure conjecture. It could as easily be argued that the first 5 were Magdalena's, because of the even larger gap between Jacob and Catharina.
