George F. Eutzler, 88, of Osceola, passed away Wednesday afternoon, November 15, 2006, in his home surrounded by his family.
George was born January 13, 1918, in Mishawaka, a son of the late George and Mary (Van Huffel) Eutzler. He grew up in Mishawaka where he resided until moving to Osceola to live on the St. Joseph River in 1960. George served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946.
For many years George owned and operated Eutzler's Service Station at the corner of Union and 9th in Mishawaka. He was a lifetime member of VFW #360 in Mishawaka, American Legion #161 in Mishawaka and DAV #19 in Elkhart. George also belonged to the Eagles and Moose Lodges and enjoyed many happy times with the Gypsy Rovers RV Club. Other pastimes included fishing, boating and mushroom hunting. George was also a member of the Mishawaka High School Alumni.
In 1957 George married Frances (Swaim) Osmon, who passed away in 1976. He later married Alberta (Chambers) Batten in 1981, who passed away in 2000. George was also preceded in death by three sisters, Loretta Nagy, Ruby Hayden and Hattie Reynolds.
George's surviving family includes three stepsons, Robert (Jeanne) Osmon of Mishawaka, Fred (Marilyn) Osmon of Estes Park, Colorado, and Glenn (Carol) Osmon of Osceola; his caregiver and cousin, Mary "Meachie" O'Connor of South Bend; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Friends may spend time with George's family today (Friday) from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 West Third Street, Mishawaka. Services will be held in the funeral home chapel Saturday at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
