- BIOGRAPHY: James Moone arrived in America in 1682 on a ship called "Welcome" with William Penn. One-third of the ship passengers died en route from smallpox. James and his family settled in what became Bucks Co., PA. near falls of the Delaware River at Fallsington. (Moon, J.W. The Moon and Kindred Families, 1930.) In Bristol, England James was released from prison where he was held because of his Quaker beliefs on the condition that he leave for PA immediately. He received a grant of 500 acres from his friend William Penn. ( Bellarts, The Descent of Some of Our Quaker Ancestors, 1991).
