      years and age, and not Knowing that I shall Ever Return heir again, Do

    • An ancestor found baffling because apparently restless, his travels took him from New London to Charlestown, from Charlestown to Oyster Bay, Long Island, and then back again to Charlestown where he
      died at the age of 83 (Fosdyck).

      Removed to Oyster Bay, Long Island in 1750 & later removed to
      Charlestown, MA. Blacksmith; heir of father's rights to land as a
      soldier in the Narraganset war. Admitted to the church 26 Jul 1741
      (Historic Homes).

      NEHGS Fosdick, Annals, p 57, was left 16 pounds in his father's will
      `to pay for the cure of his... leg performed by Dr. Nicholas Ayroult,'
      a French physician residing in Wethersfield (p 57). A blacksmith (p
      62). Iin 1714 involved in 3 suites brought by John Pickett, his first
      cousin, but also brother of Adam Picket, Susannah's first husband. In
      end, Samuel II sentenced to `stand in the Pillory three several
      Lecture Days or Days of Public meeting for the space of half an hour
      Each Time' (p 64/5). p66 About 1718 moved to Charlestown and
      continued his trade as blacksmith (p 68). In litigation separated
      from wife and other children and in 1728 moved to Oyster Bay, LI, NY
      taking only Sameul III (p 67/8). (Fosdick Annals).

      Between the birth of James (1717) and Ezekial (1719/20) moved from
      New London to Charlestown (Annals, p 66).

      In a 15 Sep 1732 deed selling his father's homestead in New London
      for 200lb. he described himself as `Samuel Fosdick of Oyster Bay in
      Queens county on Nassau Island within his Majesties Province of New
      York, late of Charlestown in the county of Middlesex, Province of
      Massachusetts Bay in New England, Blacksmith' (Annals, p 68).

      From 1732 to 1752 he was occupied in Oyster Bay with balcksmithing
      his major concern. In the 18 year period between 1736 and 1754 he
      qwas involved in 26 separate cases int he Court of Common Pleas of
      Queens county. In 6 caqses he was the plaintiff; in 20, the
      defendant. Each case meant a trip to the county seat at Jamaica,
      about 25 miles (Annals, p 71).

      Admitted church 26 Jul 1741 (Charlestown Gens, p 354).

      In 1752/3 he bagan disposing of his property in Oyster Bay, deeding
      his son Samuel a substantial bit of property on Mill River Road
      (Samuel III had remained with his father throughout his years in
      Oyster Bay) (Annals p 71).
