- Harris George Moon, also known as "Huck Moon" died Dec. 20, 2014 at Lily & Syringa Assisted Living in Idaho Falls. He was born June 25, 1923, in Burton, Idaho, the oldest child of Joseph Heber Moon and Margaret George Moon. His early childhood years were spent in Fairfield, Idaho. The family moved to Egin when Harris was 14 years old. He attended Ashton High School and played on the football team. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad in Pocatello until he joined the Army-Air Corps In 1943. He was accepted for flight training and completed his pilot courses in Santa Ana, Calif., and Wickenburg, Ariz.
During his navigation training in Stockton, Calif., he achieved a 100 percent average. He continued his service as a second lieutenant and trainer for cadet bombardiers until his release from the service in 1946.
He married Betty Lou Davis on Jan. 10, 1948, in St. Anthony. The marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He became an active member of the church and held many callings over the years. Betty died in 2005.
In the late 1950's, he took over the management of the St. Anthony Laundry, which his wife's parents, Leo and Thetta Davis, owned. He later purchased the laundry, which served many motels, hospitals and restaurants in a wide area from Rexburg to West Yellowstone.
He served on the St. Anthony City Council in 1966-68. For several years he also provided many hours of community service, singing at local events in the St. Anthony area. This included over 500 funerals and wedding receptions, which he did free of charge.
Huck worked for Jinks Stanford as a crop duster and always looked forward to the farming season so he could fly again. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, refinishing antique furniture and he owned several antique cars. He loved to watch sports and supported the South Fremont Cougars by attending games as long as his health allowed.
Huck and Betty had five children who survive him, Kathy (Lee) Clark, of St. Anthony; Dave (Lynda) Moon, of Pocatello; Rebecca (Tim) Rehfield, of Las Vegas, Nev.; Phil (Lacey) Moon, of Idaho Falls, and Steve (Camille) Moon, of Rigby.
