Warner was raised in an LDS home, his parents having joined the Church early. They suffered the persecutions of Ohio, Missouri, and Nauvoo. He was a shoemaker by trade and Priscilla helped him by sewing the tops of the shoes during the day while he worked on the Nauvoo Temple.
Warner served a mission to York County, Pennsylvania in 1843. his family was part of the group of saints who witnessed the miraculous appearance of the quail, which saved them from starvation.
He moved his family back to Missouri near St. Joseph where he was able to find employment. While there, he was falsely accused of a crime and thrown into jail for a year. During this time the money he had saved for the trip west went to feed his family.
He finally was able to get his family across the plains and to the Valley. In 1865 he moved his family to Weston, Idaho, where he married his second and third wives.
